Vaqueros Program Competitive Refund Policy

Mission Statement:

The Vaqueros Competitive Soccer program is dedicated to the education and development of players who desire to play soccer at a competitive level. To achieve this, the Vaqueros strive to create an atmosphere of professional instruction on the sound fundamentals of competitive soccer; encourage and demonstrate sportsmanship and good character; and respect our coaches, referees, and fellow soccer players. Emphasis is on participation, sportsmanship, enjoyment of the game, working together as a team, and the physical and mental development of each player.

Vaqueros Competitive Teams:

The competitive program consists of 25+ teams ranging in age from 8 years to 19 years. Vaqueros teams consist of players committed to excelling in their development as a soccer player, and competitive coaches who are committed to training and leading the teams towards excellence. Competitive teams typically begin practicing the first week of May and conclude at the end of the Presidio League Games in the month of November. Advanced teams playing at the Premier or AAA level often participate in post season play, attending additional tournaments, including the CYSA National Tournament.

During tryouts, we attempt to create as many teams as we can to accommodate those interested in playing competitive soccer. While we may not be able to select each person to play for the Vaqueros, we will do our best. If there is interest and desire we do not wish to discourage your child. We strive to place the players on appropriate skill level teams and have them play at the appropriate skill level for league play.

Green Teams:  Green teams are comprised of the top talent in each of the specific age groups. A professionally trained and licensed coach is assigned to the team to provide education and training at the highest level and must meet certain requirements relating to their soccer background. Green team players are selected based on their desire to commit to the team for an entire season, which could be anywhere from 7 to 10 months, and will involve participation in local, and out of town tournaments, including regional and state competitions. Participation on a Green team is a serious physical, emotional, and financial commitment.

White Teams: White teams are comprised of developmental players. Each team is assigned a professionally trained and licensed coach and sometimes may also consist of a licensed assistant parent coach. As with the Green teams, players are selected based on their desire to commit to the team for an entire 7 month season. Players that are successful in developing their skills are often moved up to a Green team for post season play where room is available.

Vaqueros Tryouts and Player Selection:

In an effort to achieve success at a competitive level, the Vaqueros conduct open tryouts annually for all players interested. Tryouts are not limited to residents of the City of Poway.
